ghd Helios hair dryer gave my fine hair a big volume boost

I am not visibly blessed. As someone with fine hair I understand the daily drama of spindly skeins all too well in a style that makes them look fuller and thicker. When I got the opportunity to test the much-touted Ghd Helios Hair dryer, I was 100% in.

Not least because it promises to give fine hair a serious volume boost and prevent it from falling flat at lunchtime.

Ghd Helios

What is it?

A powerful hair dryer with a brushless motor. This is not just an impressive technical speech.

Most hair dryers use carbon brushes that wear out over time and cause the motor to stop working. In contrast, brushless motors like the ghd Helios use magnets and electronics to drive the motor, which extends the life of the dryer.

This type of engine is also light, super quiet and delivers a strong airflow for quick, frizzy results.

Other remarkable technology?

The ghd Helios also offers what the brand calls “Aeroprecis Technology”. In other words, an aerodynamic design with a special contoured nozzle that guarantees an even air flow and a concentrated temperature.

“This control creates a smoothing effect that smoothes the cuticles and aligns the hair fibers,” says Zoë Irwin, ghd ambassador. “Ultimately, this is the hair’s protection system against cleavage. Aligned hair with flattened cuticles is stronger.”

ghd Helios hair dryer is absolutely worth it – review

The first thing you notice about ghd Helios is that it’s surprisingly light. This is due to the ergonomic weight distribution in the device, which causes less arm pain when drying the hair.

It’s also a lot quieter than regular hair dryers, and although it’s super fast, it didn’t blow up mine long hair in every direction.

Because my hair is so fine, it usually takes me about 15 minutes to blow dry it. The Ghd Helios cuts that in half. And your hair looks really silky smooth without affecting the volume.

On Irwin’s advice, I don’t roughly dry my hair in the morning. “You should always dry your hair properly with a brush,” she warns. “Rough drying causes the cuticles to rise and the hair to become more prone to split ends and breakage.”

With the ghd Helios this does not mean that I have to set my alarm earlier.

I just warm the hair around the brush and then switch to a cooler temperature for most of my blow drying. This dictates the shape, increases the shine and gives me a volume that defies gravity. Keyword: smiley emoji.

In other words, the ghd Helios is so good at promoting fine hair that you won’t find any weft hair extensions in my apartment that dry on the radiator.
